the 1st gen mbp's DO have pre-N capability. however i cant imagine that the new airport wouldnt support regular CD's. the C2D's are essentially the same machine with a newer processor in them.

i think a mbp c2d can replace a desktop. it did for me, and i have no issues with "grainy" display, i wouldnt like to use this computer for gaming, but that's only because i wouldnt want to wear out...
