Open the Audio MIDI Setup application (Utilities folder).
Set the audio output format to 44100Hz and try the file again.
The camera will now be recognized if it is actually compatible.

512 RAM is enough to run the application...but you obviously got creative with the program and added effects, titles, etc. I'd up it to 1 g-that's the most your allowed on your mac.

There are protection laws that are keeping you from doing that. Just burn an audio CD with the desired tunes on it and import to imovie from there.
