The reason I'm asking is that I shall be flying over from the UK. Everything here (in the UK) tends to be more expensive that in the USA.

Actually, if you intend to buy a PB/iBook, an extended warranty from apple is good value. Try getting a PB fixed out of warranty and it can cost you an arm and a leg.
