I've had that same exact issue. I took it into Apple, and it turned out to just be a bad battery. They replaced the battery under warranty, and I've never had the problem since.

That's strange, because the only thing I've had repaired on my MacBook is getting the palm rest/keyboard replaced, and you don't have to mess with the foil tape to fix that.

I can't see them putting it in the MacBook before it is in the 17" MacBook Pro. Otherwise, they're top of the line MacBook doesn't look so top of the line anymore.

I believe that the max ram it can take is 4GB. You will definitely thank yourself if you go up to 2 GB of ram. I don't think 4BG is necessary. Others may disagree though.

Take it back to the Apple Store. They'll exchange it. Just tell them what happened, about it looking like it was taken out of the box before you got it and the crashing. It shouldn't be a problem.

I've never had problems with a Mac until my Macbook (bought when they first came out). It's got the flickering problem, and has had its palm rest replaced twice and had to get a new battery after it...
