I have 1.5GB ram in my imac and it runs really well. Buy as much as you can afford, but if cost is an issue 1.5GB is certainly enough - even 1GB for most people.

I dont think my drive is supported by Apple dvd player, however, after adjusted audio settings on VLC, I am of the opinion that it is an excellent application and dvd's can be viewed beautifully now...
