OK I've already decided not to take my TiBook.
Got a wad of MiniDV tapes, and 864 MB so far of memory for my Canon G2, which according to the camera is probably good for around 400-450 pictures. I may pick up another 512 MB before I go.
I will also take my iPod of course.
Now, how much cash to take? How receptive people to travellers' checks outside of the big cities? How much access to bank machines for cash? I was thinking of bring several hundred US bux cash and several hundred in travellers' checks. Would Canadian bux be good enough for travellers' checks?
How much to tip tour people?

1. Sunscreen.
2. Hit a tanning parlor before you go a few times to give yourself a base coat if you don't already have one. (don't burn yourself though....a few 10 minute sessions... it will save you from severe burning down there if you have a base before going).
Me speaks from personal experience.
(at least to Brasil in December...where its the beginning of summer now).

yikes, theres more cost effective ways of taking digital photos on long trips, you could get a digital wallet or get that ipod card reader dealie if you have a new one with a docking port.
Never been to costa rica, hope you have a good time!

I thought about the iPod reader (esp. since I'm bringing my iPod anyway), but apparently it's crap. Flaky and not good for much beyond 128 MB, and it takes forever.
I managed to get a 512 MB Sandisk Ultra II card for about US$120, so that's a pretty damn good deal, considering it's one of the fastest cards in existence. However, after checking online prices I think it was a pricing error, so I doubt I'll get that price again. But I can just pick up another 512 MB Ultra (non-II) card for about $135.
OTOH, a digital wallet type thing would cost me $400+.

I just bought another 256 MB Compact Flash card. Should be good enough. Total 1.1 GB.
So what about bank machines vs. travellers' cheques?

San Jose, Monteverde, Arenal, Jaco, Caribbean Coast, etc. 2 weeks.
I think I'll bring $500 US, and use a credit card, bank machine when possible.

Now that you are there, have you had a chance to use any of those condoms that you brought along?
