Something with a harsh "i" sound in it. Cats respond to that.

We have two cats, Rada and Three. My wife named the first, I named the second.

We called our first cat Hobbes and the second Mac (oh dear). I wanted Scully (and Mulder for the second one) but was roundly vetoed by my non nerdly wife.
Still I managed to sneak Keira through as my second daughters name. When my wife heard the name on Star Trek DS9 she threw a fit, but it was just a coincidence (really) ;-)

What does it really matter to her if she liked the name before she knew of the (coincidence)?

I thought it odd that they'd use a very Celtic sounding name for an alien. And then there's the whole Kiera Knightly thing to deal with-I completely believe in the coincidence. It's a great name. Just like "Edward" for a kitten.

Obviously we wouldn't have used it if we didn't really like it. We used Bryony for our first, which is Welsh, so both have celtic names.
Back OT: Geoff is a good solid cat name. Geoff the cat.

No one would ever think of naming a cat after a dog.
It's a tortie so it's female. All torties are.

Almost all torties are female, with males being very rare (and often suffering from genetic problems). I had heard that female torties are often infertile, but that's not something I can back up, and obviously this isn't the case with momcat. Fertile male torties are extremely rare, above the rarity of male torties to begin with.
On topic: another suggestion, more in keeping with the kitten's presumed gender, is "Calimanco." It's a sort of description of the brindle-like pattern of her coat, and it sounds cool.

I always have the urge to name an animal after what its called in a different language.
I'm not very creative.

The OP said he was getting the cat in "a couple of weeks." I'm sure the naming window is still open.

In that case I propose "SpaceMonkey". Can be shortened to Monkey.
