I backed up some essentially irreplacable personal files to a DVD-R, and now find myself needing to retreive them from the backup. Only problem -- my Superdrive keeps spitting out the disc! I know the problem could be with my drive , but I suspect the disc itself might be damaged, despite the fact that it verfied OK in Toast. Anyway, I can't very well try it in another computer's drive, as I don't own one, and I really would like the files before I leave on a trip tomorrow.

I know that there are many CD recovery tools available for Windows, but everything I've found for Mac seems to only be for hard drives. Are there any programs that could help me?

Recovery tools won't be of any use if the disc keeps getting ejected.

Do other discs mount OK in your drive? If so, it's likely the disc is bad.

If you burned it a while back and the CDs were cheap then some of the cd might have gone bad. I'm sure the bit near the centre is where the catalog information is stored so make sure it's clean.

This is why I have two drives - a superdrive and a cheap LG external firewire one. I've had CDs that had read errors in my LG and worked on my Superdrive and vice versa.
