I was watching an iPhoto slideshow the other day when I suddenly noticed some screen 'flickering' on my 2 GHz CD BlackBook. It wasn't real flickering like a backlight that's about to die. It was more like a slight variation of the light intensity in bright areas. It certainly wasn't a big effect, but it was noticeable and it didn't go away.

Does this sound familiar to anybody here? Does this necessarily have to be a hardware problem or could it also be just an iPhoto issue?

I haven't heard of that before, but I don't like the sound of it.

Please keep us posted.

Mine does it for a little less than a minute after opening the lid. ANNOYING!

I took it to the Apple Genius and they will fix it, but they need to send it in. I can't do that right now, but he said I could have it fixed later. He said it helped that I documented it now. I plan on getting it fixed as well as the smudged palm rests this April.

There's a few posts on Macintouch.com about this problem.

So does that mean in your case after a minute it goes away?

I didn't see the 'intensity oscillation' stop, at least not during the 5 minute slideshow.

I used to get the flickering thing on my MacBook. but only when the screen tries to dim or I turn the brightness down to 1 or 2 bars.

but since I turned that option off in Energy Saver it doesn't happen anymore.

It eventually stops. when I showed the apple store genius it only did it for 10-15 seconds and he agreed it should be fixed.

Sometimes it will do it for a few minutes, but not very often.

I'll try to film it. and post it here.

Not the same as what mine does. Open the lid, and it will randomly flicker for a while without touching the MacBook.

I have the same settings you have.

Mine seems to do it randomly--there's no pattern to it like some others have suggested (waking from sleep, etc.). This iseems to be a recognized issue from posts here and on the Apple forum. I'm going to send it back in because I have a defective Superdrive, and see if they will also fix the screen problem.

I had posted about this a few months ago, the thread is about 20 below this one. I just recently brought it to the Apple store....they couldn't recreate it at first, but they eventually saw it and are going to replace the backlight inverter.
