I bought what I thought was a new Powerbook off eBay (second Mac). It was in mint condition and in original packaging. However, I can't get any of the Adobe or macromedia trials to run. When I install it, it says my 30-day trial is up...but I haven't even used it yet! I've emailed Adobe, but they don't respond.

Has anyone else had this problem with OSX, or is this an indicator that my laptop is not new?

Well if you nothing to lose, you could always reinstall the OS...especially if you got it off eBay. Seems that the previous owner may have had the apps installed at one time but removed them before selling.

MAY HAVE ?

For sure that's what happened.

I think a clean install with formating the HD should do it.
Or is there a way to keep a sort of cookie set even after formating the HD ? Anyone ?

iTunes and iMovie, yes. GarageBand came in a separate disk, iLife '04 originally. Don't know if new PBs include it. When was your Book sold? That'll determine if it has it.

Yup, everything will be gone. On a PC sometimes a virus will hide in the partition data, requiring you to recreate your partitions. Adobe would never do anything that tricky.
