You bet. I have had a Maxtor 7200 drive in my rev. D iMac for almost 2 years now and have not had a problem (that includes almost a year with an iMaxpowr upgrade card). I would say heat is not an issue.

I recently installed a Seagate IV 40 gig 7200 in my iMac DV. Runs very fast and extremely quite, in fact, I can't here the thing run in less I put my ear close to the iMac case. Have monitored the running temp with Gage Pro for two weeks now and it runs at about 104-107F. This is about 5or6 above my old 10gig Quantum drive. Not enough difference I don't think to do any real harm.

For those interested in upgrading their drive, I bought my drive as "New", from e-bay at about half what I would have paid in a Canadian retail location. It arrived in "New" condition and was a breeze to install and format.

Sure. Go for it, your computing will be quicker. Only questions would be brand and pricing--oh, and noise too.
i look in your general direction
