Hey all.

I've been using iTunes on my XP box without trouble for several years. I generally update to the latest version within a few weeks of it becoming available.

Last week I updated to the latest version. Ever since then, every time I start iTunes it chugs for a while and then I get the following error message.

When I click Okay iTunes goes through all of the songs in my library and looks to be importing them again. iTunes looks okay from that point, until I close it and restart it and it happens again.

Any ideas? I'm kind of stumped.

Thanks in advance!!

That's strange. I'd try reinstalling iTunes first.

Thanks. Should I reinstall iTunes over the top of itself? Or uninstall first?
Will running the uninstall app delete my songs?

Thanks again!

I don't think you need to reinstall itunes itself but if you go to:

MY DOCUMENTS>MY MUSIC>ITUNES

you'll see an ITUNES folder and I think an .xml document and another txt doc, both named itunes or itunes library. Delete the files NOT the folder. Restart itunes. Itunes should open up just fine with an empty library. Then go to:
EDIT>PREFERENCES>ADVANCED tab and then tell uncheck the box that says COPY FILES WHEN ADDING TO LIBRARY. Your library is already in the folder... so why add and get dupes?

Then you just need to go to : FILE>ADD TO LIBRARY and surf to where your library was.. most likely :
MY DOCUMENTS>MY MUSIC>ITUNES>ITUNES LIBRARY.

Done. Keep in mind I just typed all this from memory. If you get hung up somewhere then just drop me a note here and we'll figure itout.
Backups are like guns and condoms. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
