I am running Postfix on my Mac server and I have a problem where my password is rejected in my POP accounts in my email client Apple Mail. The error message from Apple mail is: The server error encountered was: Can't get lock. Mailbox in use

I have both POP & IMAP services turned on and here's what I get reported in my mail.log file:

Jun 18 10:18:29 handsonmac imapd[17394]: Login user=peter host=[10.0.1.1]
Jun 18 10:18:43 handsonmac ipop3d[17392]: Mailbox is open by another process, access is readonly
Jun 18 10:18:43 handsonmac ipop3d[17392]: Error opening or locking INBOX user=peter host=[10.0.1.1]
Jun 18 10:18:43 handsonmac ipop3d[17392]: Login user=peter host=[10.0.1.1] no mailbox
Jun 18 10:18:43 handsonmac ipop3d[17392]: Expunge ignored on readonly mailbox
Jun 18 10:18:43 handsonmac ipop3d[17392]: Logout user=peter host=[10.0.1.1] nmsgs=77 ndele=0
Jun 18 10:19:29 handsonmac ipop3d[17402]: pop3s SSL service init from 10.0.1.1
Jun 18 10:19:29 handsonmac imapd[17394]: Killed (lost mailbox lock) user=peter host=[10.0.1.1]
Jun 18 10:19:29 handsonmac ipop3d[17402]: Trying to get mailbox lock from process 17394
Jun 18 10:19:29 handsonmac imapd[17404]: imaps SSL service init from 10.0.1.1

Looks like POP can't get the mailbox lock because IMAP is using it - but I'm not sure.

btw, when I turn off IMAP services my password gets accepted in Apple Mail.

Can you offer some help?

Big thanks
