Alo everyone. I could use some educated opinions on a purchasing endeavour. I am deciding between buying a Dual G4 1.25 PowerMac or a single 1.6 G5. I'm a multimedia design student, working a lot in Photoshop and multitasking often. At any time I'll have at least iTunes and a chat app running, while switching in and out of Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash and possibly even some video editing in the near future. I'll bump either of these systems up to at least 512 of RAM, and eventually 1 GB and possibly beyond.

Any informed (and hopefully experienced) opinions or advise are definitely welcome. Thanks a lot for your time in advance!

I would go for the G5, assuming that a speedbump is imminent. I think a 2 GHz single G5 keeps up well with dual 1.25 G4 in the in the SMP application and outshine them in nonSMP. On top of that you get newer features in the case that will make the G5 last longer.

Not that the G4 is a bad case or the dual 1.25 are slow

Wait 1 month and see if you still need a new mac... Actually, wait until they are bumped and then get the low end mac. It should suit your needs just fine. If you have the money though, I would recommend getting the mid range dual G5 since you will be running some apps that will be able to take advantage of both processors. Hope this helps!
