All I really want to do is change the various blue buttons and other features in Aqua from blue to red - as good as Unsanity's programs are, I don't have the $20 or so to buy them. Is there anyway to change those graphics manually - I am a programmer, so I can hold my own regarding file modification - or otherwise tint the buttons?

Themepark can be used for free....you could get Gimp (free) to edit the colors and export the theme as a dtla and apply it with Themechanger (free). Should you hose the system with a dtla theme, you programming skills should bring you back.
