Does anyone have a pointer to a page describing how to manually handle files with iTunes to behave like podcasts?

I have messed about with various tags but the results are not too clean and a little random. I do not want a feed through Apple, just locally stored files. There does appear to be scope for this - there is a box below the podcasts sync box with a playlists box.

Go here: Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes ♫ - dougscripts.com and find a script that says to convert selected item to podcast. I use it all the time and it works great.
