Tips given at Genius Bar?

I'm curious, I've been to Apple stores many times and I've seen some people went to Genius Bar for some help with their macs. Out of many times, I've seen a person tipped to genius bar techinican once.
are we supposed to or should tip them after they help us with our macs?

Hm, the threat title is misleading. I thought you were talking about tips (=hints) the one would GET at the Genius bar.
YEAH, i'd like to get a (money) tip for getting answers... 
But giving tips, I don't know. I never used the Genius bar. I'm a Genius myself

I'll take this one - since I worked there for 2 1/2 years....
We weren't really allowed to take tips. At one point there was some rule prohibiting tips over 100$ for all Apple employees, but eventually retail put into policy a no tips rule. Once in a blue moon someone was offering something - mostly around Christmas time when we were helping out move something to someones car. As for actually being at the Bar itself, one time a woman gave me $20. What was really cool is that people would offer to buy us food. During a 8 hour retail shift - almost the entire time standing - food was a fantastic tip. We were near a Haggan Dass ice cream shop - so you could get a really nice milkshake. So feed your local Genius!

I spoke to one once, but he really was the repair technician and he gave me a new laptop power adaptor free as the old one wouldn't work. It was one year and one day old. sam
