Hello everyone!

I seem to be having a curious problem with my 17" Powerbook (PB) and my 20" Apple Cinema Display

I can connect the PB to the display (through the DVI port), boot the computer in clamshell mode and start working. When I finish I simply disconnect the power plug to the PB and it goes to sleep. I can then easily reconnect it to the monitor the next morning and start working where I left off the day before, provided I don't open the PB.

The problem arises when I do open the PB (when I work at home for example). The next day, when I connect the PB to the display, and try to wake it up using the external keyboard (to work on clamshell mode), it simply wont work. The PB wakes up (I can hear the HD spin up), and the display's power button flashes 3 times, but no image comes. The only solution is to open the PB, reboot (ctrl-cmnd-power) and then close it again to start working on the display as my main screen.

Is this a common/known issue? Is there a way to work with the PB, put it to sleep and then connect it to the display without having to restart every time? Any help is appreciated thanks!

I'm assuming your problem is when you disconnect the power cable. I'm thinking that the PB will lose connection w/ the external display when the power is unplugged, and thus it won't recognize it later.

Also, you might want to try opening the PB's lid/screen up FIRST before trying to wake out of the Sleep mode.

Good luck!
