I need to find the font Neutraface for some design work I'm doing. When I do a search I keep getting this Font foundry that's asking $300 for it. I don't mind paying something, but I can't really afford $300 for a font that I may never use again. I would like to find something a bit cheaper.
Any suggestions?

Can't you bill that expense to the client?
And this isn't really an application question - moving to the Graphic Design forum.

If you post a screenshot of it, maybe someone can help you find something similar (and cheaper).

Neutraface is one of the best 100 fonts of all times, that comes with a price. Would you except it otherwise?

If your client requires the font for the job, then you should absolutely be able to bill that cost back to them.
If they use it in-house as part of their corporate style, then they may be able to share that font with you for exclusive use on their projects only.
I have a good many fonts supplied by clients who require specific fonts.

Fred Woodward, highly decorated art director (among the best of our time) of Rolling Stone, once said something to the effect of:
"All fonts have a purpose, a time to be applied. My goal is to use them all."
I agree with idea behind Woodward's comment and reject the notion that there are a set number of fonts that are at the top of the list. There is no list, there are simply times and jobs for all typefaces. Good art directors and designers know how and when to apply the right type. And like Mr. Woodward, they strive to employ them all.
