I haven't been able to figure out a fix for this just searching the internet or forums, partly because I can't quite find the words to use. My iPhone 3g cannot connect properly to charge. It will act like it is constantly connecting/disconnecting to the power source and will not charge at all. I put up a video example of it here: YouTube - iPhone 3g Not Charging...Help!

You can get a general idea of my issue. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

My wife's 3Gs had a charging problem, too. It wouldn't recognize when it was plugged into a wall outlet. It would take repeated plugging/unplugging at the wall to finally get a positive response. I suspect there's something internal to the phone.

We never did figure-out a solution. Her iPhone4 charges perfectly using the same cable and wall outlet.

This may be obvious, but have you dug the lint and other crap out of the connector on the phone?

A toothpick works well for this.

Can you wiggle the connector on the cable and get it to engage?

That was my first thought, too...I have tried cleaning it out, but with the end of a q tip after cutting the cotton end off. I will try the toothpick! The problem is, there's never any certainty as to if it's going to do this or not, so I don't get any instant satisfaction! I have tried jiggling the cable around. It doesn't seem to make a difference either if it is barely touching the receptors or pushed in as hard as I can make it, either.

I have also done a wipe and restore of the phone, in case anybody was wondering. I'm running 4.2.1.
