This thread is both an "are you having this problem" thread, as well as a tip for those that are.

I've been finding that audio seems to randomly go wonky in Mavericks where it just starts randomly stuttering and yaking. Killing the coreaudiod process so that it auto-respawns has been a consistent fix for this, but this is a PITA.

Anybody else having this same problem?

Do you have any third-party device drivers installed?

Thanks Spheric! Since upgrading my MobilePre USB kernel extension this problem seems to have gone away. Strange that a driver for a device not even connected was causing the problem, let alone a USB kernel extension (I'm not even sure why the kext is necessary).

Thanks again!
