An Android app which allowed users to watch
Amazon Instant Video content on the
Google Chromecast has been removed from sale just 36 hours after launch. The
Primecast app, an unofficial app sold for $2.99 via Google Play, was pulled after the app's ability to stream video was blocked, effectively making the app useless to its users.
The app initially went on sale last Thursday,
reports Android Police, with Primecast providing access to a list of purchased and rented movies and TV shows, even for non-Prime subscribers. Prime Instant Video access is not included directly, rather it required users to use a separate Browse tab to add individual videos to their watchlist, in order for it to appear for viewing in the app.
The app developers confirmed
to Android Police that the app "got locked out", and though it is not directly mentioned, it is likely Amazon ultimately pulled the plug. Amazon only
recently allowed non-Kindle Fire Android devices to stream Amazon Instant Video content from the Amazon Appstore, and though it allows for the streaming of video content through numerous
set-top boxes and game consoles, it has yet to enable Chromecast streaming.
The Primecast developers admit they do not know if Primecast will return to Google Play anytime soon, if at all.
