Social app Foursquare is making a prediction that Apple will sell between 13 million and 15 million iPhones over its retail opening weekend, based on historical data it has of foot traffic to Apple Stores on the day new iPhones debut, correlated with how many sales resulted. Based on users who "check in" to Foursquare at an Apple Store on the day a new iPhone debuts, the site believes Apple will handily beat both analyst's predictions as well as its own 10 million unit record from last year.

Apple has already said it was "on pace" to beat the previous record, putting paid to some analyst claims that the "incremental" upgrade of the 6s line wouldn't attract customers in record numbers because it was not an all-new design. Apple's tagline for the new product, "the only thing that's changed is everything," tackles that perception head-on, and accurately encapsulates the way the company has reworked nearly every aspect of the device, while keeping the form factor roughly the same. Foursquare's report shows that the "multiplier" of foot traffic to iPhone sales has increased each year over the past three years.

AT&T prepaid carrier Cricket adds iPhone 6s, 6s Plus

A prepaid subsidiary of AT&T, Cricket Wireless, has announced that it is selling the new iPhones on the same day that the units debut in the parent company's retail and online stores. The Cricket site and retail locations will only offer the new iPhones at the same price as full retail: $649 for a 16GB iPhone 6s, or $749 for a 16GB iPhone 6s Plus, with prices scaling upwards by $100 for each higher tier of capacity. Interestingly, Cricket is only carrying three of the four available colors, dropping the Silver version in favor of just Gold, Space Gray, and the new Rose Gold option. Plans from Cricket for iPhones start at $40 per month.
