Hey I'm new here and I was wondering if this site is slow for everyone in loading and such. I have a icebook 500 with a cable modem and this is the slowest site I've found. Is this the same for everybody??

actually speed depends on the time you try to connect.
Now it's 07:05 (05:05 GMT) and speed is good!
But around 22:00 (20:00 GMT) the site is slooooooooooooowwwwwwwwww!
I noticed speed starting to decrease around 12:00 (10:00 GMT)...

...too slow!
Well, the weird speed characteristics is what you get when you have a wildly overloaded Pentium II/350MHz running a load that should require a PIII 900, and connected to a very high-speed connection in a colocation facility.
The admin team's cries to Monish that we need a faster server yesterday have fallen on deaf ears...

It's so slow that the ads usually fail when loading. I wonder if that reasoning will get through?

What if we started a collection? I was able to build a friend a killer 1Ghz Athlon system complete with monitor for under $700, I am sure lots of people here would be willing to chip in a few bucks to have a faster BB experience.

The short shall inherit the earth. Just you wait. You won't see us coming. We'll pop out from under tables, beds, and closets in hordes. So you're tall, huh? You won't be so tall when I chew off your ankles. Mofo

Right now (12:30EDT) it's not so bad, sometimes it's actually very fast, and sometimes it's impossible to see anything.
When is this going to be fixed? It seems like there is nothing but delays (I know it's not being done on purpose, MacNN knows it is a big issue)

Hehe, you assume that someone actually knows when it'll be fixed! I laugh because every arrival date we admins and mods have been given by Monish has come and gone with no word. Monish is the only one who knows whether a new server is coming at all, and if so, when.
We have been trying to answer that question ourselves, but basically have gotten nowhere.

PC's are so cheap now all you have to do is insert some quarters in the machine and one pops out. What's the deal?

How slow is this site??????
Shouldn't that be, "When will this site come to a standstill?" Like AI did. What well you do then?
|
Without your space helmet, Dave, you're going to find that rather difficult.
