Can Bluetooth devices such as the MacWireless Bluetooth USB Adapter or the D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter be plugged into USB hubs or must such adapters be plugged directly to the USB port of the computer, in my case, a PowerMac G4 500? If you can plug such adapters into USB hubs, then I thought I would mention that I have my USB hub under my desk. Would having my USB hub down there effect performance?

I'd say you'll be fine. I have a USB bluetooth adapter from iogear. It has NEVER been plugged directly into the computer .. only hubs or keyboard ports. Works fine. There are two "classes" of BT adapters ... on has a range of 10m and one has, I believe, a range of 100m. Not sure which your model is, but either of them should work fine under your desk -- BT is made for short-range non-line-of-sight connections like you're describing.
