First time I turned on this new iMac DV se, I saw a very strange site: something that looked frighteningly like a DOS boot-up sequence. Black screen white text and a prompt!

I forget the exact wording, but it instructed me to type "mac-boot" to continue, which I did. Then I got a strange looking MacOS logo with a flashing blue question mark. Underneath this was a long line of weird looking code.

Nothing I did then worked, so I gave it the three-fingered salute (force restart) and then everything worked fine.

So what was it I saw? Did someone in the factory forget a final step before putting it in the box?

Drewbert,

What you saw was the underlying MacOS code.

Scary, isn't it? At least we Mac users ALMOST never have to see it...

I've only seen stuff like that in my buggy Performa, but I am fortunate not to have experienced it in three years! My Lombard works fine...

Apple probably did forget something. Glad it worked.

Good luck with your DVSE,

- Sean Yepez

Send it back. The machine is DOA and any dealer should swap it and send that one back to Apple.
