I'm going to switch from my old iPhone to the new 3g iPhone. What happens in a few months when Apple releases an upgraded firmware/software version iPhone 2.1 and i want to update my OLD phone. After syncing with my computer and applying the update, my old phone is going to try and activate via AT&T. If it doesn't find AT&T, doesn't it lock down and become un-usable?

How do we get around this?
MAC PRO: Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400 processors
ATI Radeon HD 4870 with 512MB of GDDR5 memory
1600MHz, 64-bit dual independent frontside bus
16 Gigs (4x4) of 800MHz DDR2 memory

You should still be able to update the older phone to the new software, just not activate its telephony parts.
