I have a 12" rev A, and it recently developed problems recognizing the battery (seems like it was after the last security update, but that could be a coincidence). Every so ofetn, the battery icon in the menubar changes, and it shows up as "no available battery" when clicked.
I can correct the problem by resetting the PMU, but it returns a few hours later. I've tried running the battery update, draining/recharging, all the usual disk maintenance, resetting nv-ram, but nothing has helped. The battery itself seems to be charging fine, based on the LEDs, so I doubt that it's going bad.
Any suggestions?

The security update is just a coincidence, as the laptop will charge the battery with no OS. After all, it will charge the battery when the machine is off.

That's not what I meant--it's happened before where an update has messed up PMU settings, so that was a possibility. I agree that it's most likely a coincidence, though. There are some folks over on the Apple discussion boards who've had this problem for a while, but no definite solution other than trying a new battery.
