Would this hard drive be compatible with and fit a dual USB iBook? I see that it's a 2.5" drive, but I've heard that even some of these do not fit in the iBooks.

Thanks!

AFAIK, iBook harddrives have to be 9.5 mm or thinner in height.
Maybe you find info on that in the specs of the drive you'd like to get.

According to Samsung's site the dimensions are as follows:

Height: 0.37 in = 0.01mm (That seems short to me!!)
Width: 3.94 in = 0.16 mm
Depth: 2.75 in = 0.11 mm

I suppose that means it can fit in the iBook.

I wonder if you can read a newspaper through it.

Better yet, you could roll it up and shove it in through the fan opening into the iBook. Talk about easy HD replacement...

On the other hand, maybe something went wrong in the conversion process into the metric system. 0.37 inch rather equals 9.4 mm. So yes, that would be possible. Maybe you'll find some reports on users who upgraded their system with that HD over at xlr8yourmac.com in the drive database.

I suspected there was something amiss with the calculations... hehe! Thanks for the advice!

Nobody — nobody — makes notebook drives in any thickness other than 9.5mm these days. With the exception of the very few SATA notebook drives out there, all notebook drives on the market will work in any Apple laptop made after 1997.
