Maybe this procedure will help you. You’ll need a bootable installation CD.

A system/installation CD/DVD belongs to a computer like a keyboard or mouse. Each iMac comes with system software which can get updated by new versions of Mac OS X.
Your best options are - to contact the person you traded it from. He/she won’t have any more use for it, or
- to buy an OS X installation DVD from Apple.
If you live close to an Apple store try asking there. If you’re lucky they help you out.

As a third option, go to eBay. You will probably be able to find an installation disc floating around in there somewhere. But ONLY GET AN INSTALL DISC FOR YOUR SYSTEM. Make sure you are buying an install disc set that says "imac G5" on it. If you get one for another computer, it won't work, and if you get a commercial OS X install (works on all computers), there won't be a password restore on the disc.
Here is the only auction I found that will work for you:
iMac G5 Mac OS X Install Disks 10.3.5 *SEALED* - (eBay item 140150082698 end time Aug-27-07 17:46:27 PDT)

if you follow the apple website instructions in the above post, all it will do is change/ reset your password.

Hmm, sounds like someone may be trying to break into someone else's computer. Just speculating though.

Really? That's not true in my experience.

Well well well.... Shut my mouth.
Go get a commercial install. And if you are trying to break into a computer, don't be sissy about spending money for it.
