I love mangos. My dad is a mango expert, but I inherited absolutely nothing from him when it comes to picking them

From what I remember, make sure it's slightly soft to squeeze, not brick hard; if it's got green on it, then it's probably not ripe yet but you can still buy them, but best to leave them till soft.

I also need to start eating more fruit, and generally start to eat properly.

mango i believe you want it to be just firm and then buy it and leave in a brown bag for a day or 2 and it will be the fo-shizza.

you can smell the mango too and if it has a beautiful mango scent, it is ripe and ready to eat

good, old fashioned, red delicious apples do it for me.
just try to eat them with breakfast every morning.
I also eat carrots at dinner...
both fit my student budget quite well when bought in bulk..
i've found the facier the fruit/vegetable, the more expensive.

Kiwi fruit:

Sure, they look like hairy little turds, but they are sweet and full of vitamin C. You want them when they're only slightly squeezable.
Cantaloupes:

Full of beta carotene. Buy them when you can smell the sweet cantaloupe smell through the skin.

Eat a WHOLE Cucumber, just chop off the very top and bottom. Don't shave off the skin. If available, I do this probably once a day. They are good for you, cucumbers are. They are great

Also, strawberries are good as well.

Fresh pineapple will make you wonder what that crap is they put in cans.

I buy them when you can just smell ripeness... not too green or yellow.

Broccoli florets
You can't go wrong with tangerines

But what you need are recipes. Here's one for summertime:

Skin and freeze 2 bananas. Start with a few ice cubes and a cup of soymilk or water in a blender. Break up bananas just a bit and put in a blender with a cup of ripe, fresh strawberries, and a tablespoon of frozen orange juice concentrate. Add soymilk/ice until the preferred texture is attained.

This tastes best with a couple shots of vodka or rum blended in. Still healthy, right?

No need to peel them, just cut the top off with a knife and eat with a spoon. Much like a boiled egg.

Fruit Salads are the way forward, Buy a load of fruit and get all 5 of your recommended portions in one nice fruity snack.

Screw fruits and vegetables: They are overrated and overpriced. I mean, for $5 I can get 50 bags of Top Ramen at Wal-Mart. How many oranges or bananas could I get for that much? One.

Now, I have made it my personal philosophy to live by my patented 'Opposite of the Atkins Diet', crabohydrates only. It consists of eating 3 major foods and only those 3 foods:

1) Top Ramen
2) Potatos
3) Bread

Now, once you start on the diet you wont be able to crap for about a week, but that will pass. You will eventually poop again, don't worry. Just try to keep thinking about the amount of money you are saving while you wait.

Cucumbers are good. Here's how I eat them: take the skin off, slice up the cucumber, put it in a bowl of vinegar, sprinkle on pepper & onion powder & garlic powder, then eat.

White grapes are good too. And tangerines.
