Bill Engvall!

How about this:

"If you look at your family tree and it doesn't split...you MIGHT be a redneck!"

(My 12-year old thought of that one - no kidding!)

He also came up with,

"If you go to a family reunion to pick up a date...you MIGHT be a redneck!"

We think he should write for Jeff Foxworthy - the kid is VERY funny.

That one is really scary.

She needs to take responsibility for her actions.

I'm going to have a seisure.

Out of place? Yep. I confess. I placed a political comment in a thread that has nothing to do with politics, or does it?

Why is she being prosecuted in Georgia? She didn't break any laws there...
Politics.

She has psychological problems. The news media has blown this way out of proportion, as they glom on to any such story in the hopes of finding her dead in some shallow grave.

My interjection was just a pathetic knee-jerk response to those who would have her serve time.
I feel sorry for her.

On the other hand, "you know who" leading a priveledged life, and all can break any laws, and rules, and treat anyone as they are beneath her...

Please accept my apology in Jane Fonda-esque fashion. My only regret is, I don't have a book to sell.

-

Back to making fun of a disturbed girl, who went a bit crazy for a week.

Seriously,

Do all of you experts think that one day you wake up and go nuts? It is a slow process that takes weeks and even months to occur. The symptoms were clear only to her as she bought a ticket and made arrangements for her escape a week or so in advance. The authorities would have you believe this is premeditated. I say, it is only the beginning of her symptoms, and the larger problem coming to the forefront when she actually goes and acts on this transgression.

How unprofessional of anyone on television, either brandishing a badge or diploma to say otherwise.

Carry on!

That doesn't change the fact that she caused thousands and thousands of dollars in needless expenses. She could have shacked up in a Motel 6 and ate Doritos and not caused any problems. She broke the law and has been indicted. She'll probably just get probation but it would send a clear signal to other idiots not to waste people's time and money just because the pressure of a freakin' wedding is too much.

Well, when one goes crazy, one isn't concerned about consequences, financial or otherwise.

Randman thinks = Mentally Ill people = Idiots. (Nice guy)

CLUE: The wedding was just the thing that pushed her over the edge that was already drawing uncomfortably close to her. She was going to have an episode sooner or later, this just brought it on much sooner.

All anyone seems to be concerned about is the money. That's shear stupidity if you ask me.
How much is wasted on a daily basis on nonsense anyway?

It wasn't a felony. It is listed as a misdemeanor. Puh-leeze.
They cannot charge her with a felony.

You call it a panic disorder. I'm calling it something else, more serious. This could be the first time it has come to light. You don't punish a person if they had no idea they were doing wrong. As far as she may have been concerned with was self-preservation.

Your signature now seems a bit contrarian to me. There is nothing super-hero-ish about you.

Actually, yes, Randman.

(See, I SMILE when I contradict you.)

The textbooks are full of people who commit crimes and get away with it.

I'm one of them.

About 10 years ago some woman pushed me when I was at a bar on the beach and ripped my shirt. Then she hit me in the face and broke my sunglasses (this was at a bar in Fort Lauderdale). I hit her in the face with my elbow and knocked out all of her teeth (I took some martial arts and believe it or not, the reflex to hit her with my elbow was instantaneous - I never thought that I would ever use it) and guess what? She was charged with disorderly conduct and I was charged with a felony battery - me, the one who was attacked first.

Two years later and on principle alone (I refused to accept a "plea bargain" that charged me with a misdemeanor and a year probation and pay $10K because she attacked me first and I found it utterly ridiculous that when I am the one attacked and defend myself I am the one charged with a felony) and $20,000 in legal fees, I walked. On the DAY of the "trial" they dismissed the charges. The whole thing was bogus. I was never arrested - a sheriff's deputy served me and said that I was being charged with a felony about two months later.

Now, would that happen to someone with no money? I doubt it. I agreed (offered) to give her insurance/dental company $4500 for new teeth and the charges were dismissed. Oh, and I paid my lawyer (who is a really good guy - a sort of Atticus Finch.)

I am sure that if this chick (Runaway Bride) had handed over $100,000 as a "gift" to the city (that is what they said they'd spent in search and rescue fees) that is offended she would have walked also.

Now, here is where it gets even weirder: The prosecuting attorney went into private practice about five years ago and our company hired him after he called us and said he was now in private practice.

At dinner one night he said that a lot of innocent people are charged only because someone wants a pay out of some type.

The moral of the story? The "legal scales of justice" always tip in favor of the person with the most money.

P.S., I did feel badly that I knocked out her teeth, BTW. But I wasn't about to have mine knocked out because she was a drunken idiot.

Wilbanks, 32, is charged with one count of making false statements, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison, and one count of making a false report of a crime, a misdemeanor punishable by a year in jail, District Attorney Danny Porter said.

False statements = felony.

And it does not excuse her actions if she had schizophrenia, multiple personalities or simply was having an off-day. She broke the law with her actions and should be held responsible. How responsible is for a judge to decide.

Self-preservation? From a freakin' wedding? Puh-leeze.

Finally, you have no idea that it is more serious any more than I say she doesn't. Neither of us can prove otherwise so your belittling my views is a bit contrarian in itself.

I agree that she shouldn't be excused from this particular crime.

In fact, sometimes people are charged with crimes in order to:

1. Pay restitution
2. Be forced to get professional help

She qualifies for both of those.

I read that story - thanks Randman - but I still think that SOMETIMES having a mental or emotional disorder does excuse people from certain actions. Not alcohol-induced anger, but true mental or emotional disorders.

Oh, and budster101, you and I are probably the only ones still wondering what REALLY happened to Vince Foster, you know?

Self-preservation. In her mind, there was something going on beyond the pressures of the wedding. For all you or I know, she could have imagined anything! Stop showing your ignorance of mental health.

I didn't think she should have been arrested, or should have faced some minor charges. It's the MEDIA that caused most of this...

That being said, when the state police or FBI was called in, she shouldn't have lied to them.

The sad thing is, a short "I don't F@#$ing LOVE YOU" would have worked, and saved her a ton of trouble.

You are all assuming that she was capable of making rational decisions. If that is the case then fine, but I don't believe for a moment she was at all rational, and the MEDIA is incredibly responsible on many levels for blowing this out of proportion.

Of course she wasn't rational. But being irrational isn't an excuse for breaking the law.

Mitchell, she was charged not arrested. There's a difference. Chances are she'll be fined and put on probation. Which is her getting off easy, imo.

She was likely overwhelmed and lied. We'll see. I doubt she'd risk jail time if she was indeed kidnapped, though there's no proof of it.

More likely, she's a spoiled, stupid idiot who panicked, caused a national uproar and found herself under even more pressure.

I hope she gets the help she needs as well as a slap on the hand so keep her from doing that again (or anyone else with similar ideas).

Sure. She'll do her "time" with probation and/or fines and fees.

Then she'll go on Oprah and get her own show on the "Style" network and be famous and rich.

It's the American way.

(And is kind of sick, too.)
