Was talking to some English friends not so long ago, and they kept telling me about this car they had seen whilst in Australia.
They couldn't remember the name or brand of it, and their attempts to describe it were next to useless. They were adamant that this vehicle was everywhere and the most hideous thing they have ever seen (this coming from a country full of fiats and citreons!).
Well, we were walking down the road and they pointed one out, looking madly about I couldn't see what they were on about, until I spied a normal (but rather wanky) ute (Utility Vehicle). These new ones are for rich builder tossers who like driving around their work sites and for country bumpkins to use as town cars basically.
So how do you international mob rate these things? Do you have similar vehicles in your countries and would you shell out for one? Personally I wouldn't want one, not at $50,000 but their not the ugliest thing I've ever seen.
Heres the Ford Version:
And the Holden (GM) Version:

I think the Fiat Multipla is a lot worse. Yours is ugly, but I think I vote the Multipla as the ugliest car I can think of. Not even its 'glamor' shot can make it look good.

I was going to 2nd on the Aztek, but that Fiat Multipla has taken it's place. Fortunately, I've never seen one of those.

The Ford looks as if they're using leftover last-gen Mustang hoods / bumpers / fenders.
So much for the flagship ponycar...

Look at the size of that that thing's exhaust.
I was talking to a friend of mine while I was driving home, from work, today. Why is it always people who drive a 10+ year old car, or something, with a huge exhaust, stickers all over the car, and wheels that have been spaced 4 inches outside of the car, the people going 50mph in the fast lane?

grad school????
do you mean high school or uni? By the name grad, I'm guessing you mean uni.
I'm in Sydney and they are everywhere. Definitely a wanky workmans car. Big V8s with big rims and sports suspension are sh!t on a muddy construction site.
Utes are a great Aussie tradition. Oi!

And even though the models with the truck beds don't look so great, looking at their engine specs and performance options, they sound like pretty awesome performance vehicles.
From the website (regarding the F6 Tornado version of this car)...
"The new F6 270 Turbo. A 4-litre turbo-charged, intercooled, 24-valve double overhead cam six. The highest torque output of any production six ever built in Australia and one of the most powerful in the world. Through partnership with Prodrive and their mastery of turbo technology across F1 and World Rally, the development of our high performance turbo-charged FPV will change performance cars forever. We created a new engine with dramatically improved cooling and induction. The 50% larger air-to-air intercooler and dual air intake system significantly reduces intake pressure into the turbo's compressor - allowing it to work more efficiently...and effectively.
The result. A fully engineered performance-driven power generator. Armed with double overhead camshafts and 4-valve aluminum cylinder heads, the F6 270 Turbo produces its maximum power of 270kW at 5250 rpm. However, the real story is torque. All 550Nm on tap from just 2000 rpm and remaining constant all the way through to 4250 rpm.
At time of launch, the highest torque output of any production engine ever built in Australia. Even more staggering is the engine's ability to produce 80% of its maximum torque at 1500 rpm and over 98% at 1750 rpm. Total Performance meets the turbo."
Can anyone translate this into numbers us non-metric folk can understand?
I didn't see any 0-60mph-type numbers on the site. Anyone know how fast these things go?

I maybe wrong, but I thought the GTOs are from GM Australia? Maybe it's an Australian styling theme...

A 1983 Plymouth Scamp also marketed as the Dodge Rampage.
A 1983 or 1984 Chevy El Camino (from the Costner/Houston film, "The Bodyguard")
And I LIKE the looks and utility of both!
EDIT: Here's a great looking 69 El Camino!

Ugh, I saw one of those Rodius' the first time a week or two ago. Let me tell you this: it looks good on in the picture. It's nothing compared to it's uglyness on the road.
I honestly can't grasp what those people are thinking when they actually authorize the production of such a design.

Just about, torque is what makes the tires spin, and typically maximum torque is achieved at very high rpm's especially if you have a turbo(because turbos use exhaust pressure to increase the air pressure going in to the engine) but this engine has 98% of maximum torque at 1750 rpm, for comparison most engines idle at around 800 rpm so at twice as many rpms as idle you can get the most torque your ever going to get.
Of course you could do this with most engines by adding a programmable ecu and adjusting the engine timing to give you torque at low rpms.

It sure ain't pretty, but any low dollar "customized" Honda (typically without paint on all the "cool" body parts, and often sporting "racing instruments" the driver may not be able to see past) is the YUGLIEST of the ugly. At least that Ford looks finished.
Scion's little boxes are indeed pretty ugly, but they are only working on a refinement of what Fiat did in the 1970s. And if you think that's ugly, look for a Lada sedan. They are (were) made in Russia for export and looked like a bad knockoff of those boxy Fiats. Worse yet, find it in a Central American country decked out as a taxi! Yes, that's what I said. Some of my worst memories of Panama (1987-1989) involve trips from one side of the Canal to the other and back in such "taxis." I shudder even now...
I still think that odd pseudo-pickup that Chevy makes, the SSR, is just an example of a vehicle the real pickups point at and make fun of. The only thing worse in their lineup is the HHR, which looks like a PT Cruiser but better-though it's about four years too late.
