First calm down it is after all just an add banner,
second try decaf sounds like you might need to switch,
and third I believe (I cannot be 100% sure) try pith helmet for safari may block these types of adds. As I said I'm not sure as I don't use pith helmet but it does come highly regarded here.

Peace

Oh I missed that part if his post.

too bad, oh well he seems like an angry indiviual, complaining about the adds and then calling the IT folks idiots.

I wonder if Popup Washer will work for him. My guess is that it might but if his IT shop is anything like mine he may not have the security to install the application.

Oh, believe me, you'd be mad, too.

Just imagine a 10 sec break everytime this thing cycles through its routine. Nothing you can do about it. 10 sec. That's 10 sec everytime I refresh for new posts. It's farking ridiculous.

And about our IT people, it's not the local IT guys. It's the central IT dept at the headquarters. We are talking about a 100 billion $ company. The central IT dept. has decided that using FireFox is a security risk !!!!!1111!1 (WTF ?) So they only allow IE.
You don't think that qualifies for the term idiots ?

Here is a screenshot of what I mean. While this shitty ad is doing its routine, I can't click on some links. See the cursor over the hyperlink. Should be a hand, denoting a clickable link. But for some reason, it won't recognize the hyperlink.

It's not all links, but some. Really weird, really annoying.

Firefox set up and administered by someone who doesn't know what it can and cannot do is indeed much more of a security risk than a customized, locked down installation of IE on ANY platform. A good IT shop can make IE exceptionally secure; the rub is that it actually takes some time and effort to learn how to do this and MS certification doesn't stress is so it doesn't sound "saleable." Anyway, it sounds like what the heck's corporate IT shop may know what they're doing.

Further, why would it be out of the question for ANY user to complain about unfriendly ads? Why does a user's platform, even if it's just at work, matter?

wth, I fortunately have access to Firefox at school and it's what I'm running now on my AMD-based PC desktop. I run it on my wife's iBook (she prefers Safari) and my Dell laptop for other mobile outings, too, so I haven't seen these Flash-based ads myself. I assume the "close" button doesn't show up until after "the show." This IS an issue that should be addressed. But as a mod, all I can do is point it out to higher folks.

Yeah, I agree, that bit was a little redundant.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Actually, it's an AS/400 mainframe. I run windows as a text-base application.
