Yep. And it looks like Phil is left handed. Same amount of significance in the two observations.

Yes. Anyone else who might not know, Art's previous wife, Ramona, died of a severe asthma attack in January of this year.

http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...ht=Ramona+Bell

Bell's wife, Ramona, died of an acute asthma attack on January 5, 2006 in Laughlin, Nevada, where the couple were taking a short vacation. Ramona Bell was 47 years old. Days later, on January 21, 2006, it was announced that Art would host Coast to Coast more frequently, hosting the show on Saturdays and Sundays (replacing Ian Punnett on Saturday and George Noory the first two Sundays of the month).

The next day, Bell returned. He spent the first hour relating the death of his wife. Also, Bell announced that Ian Punnett (the former Saturday host) would not be unemployed. Ian would work the prefeed live for 4 hours before Bell's slot on Saturday nights from 9pm-1am ET (6pm-10pm PT; 23:00 - 03:00 UTC during standard time; 22:00 - 02:00 UTC during daylight savings time). Ian's new show is titled Coast to Coast Live with Ian Punnett
Bell announced in early March that due to the passing of his wife he would soon be taking a "huge risk" and "do something rash".

On March 18 he clarified, announcing that he would be taking a few weeks off in order to have a "change of scenery". According to the Coast to Coast AM web site, Art Bell will return to his Weekend schedule on April 15, 2006.

On April 15, 2006 the Coast to Coast website announced Art Bell had gone to the Philippines and had married Airyn Ruiz, a 21-year-old recent college graduate. Airyn Ruiz contacted Art Bell through his personal e-mail address concerning Art Bell's late wife, Ramona. It turns out that Airyn knew one of Bell's ham-radio friends. He also shocked many listeners when he announced his wedding over the air. He was not planning on telling his fans about the wedding for another year, but decided against this. He will continue to host Coast to Coast AM from The Philippines through an ISDN connection.

I thought so, too. But the circumstances led to their getting to know each other pretty quickly. If you can afford it, long distance romances with the calls and iChats and emails and stuff really adds adrenaline to a relationship. You get to know someone quickly and then you know it's a "no go" or you go to the next stage.

The thought of putting the brakes on a relationship where you've spent HUNDREDS of hours talking and sharing and everything and things only seem to keeps looking and feeling better and better, well, to slow down for the sake of reflection seems unnatural.

Art was born in 1945 and he's no spring chicken, so getting married this quickly isn't such a bad move for him. He sounds like his old self again rather than just existing.

I'm happy for him. She looks and sounds like she's good for him and she seems like a nice girl.

Who among us is able or willing to close the door on love when it knocks? Life is short.

So his wife died in January...and TWO MONTHS later he is MARRIED?

What a creep he is.

I used to like him but now I don't anymore.

Had to add...

I wonder if the former Mrs. Art Bell really DID die of an asthma attack...

Sounds suspicious to me, now...

So, to sum up:

1) A 60 year old guy's wife dies.

2) Two months later (when normal people would still be mourning, and adjusting to the loss of their life partner), he announces a "change of scenery".

3) Three months from the time of his wife's death (around 100 days or so), he marries a 21 year old girl (around 40 years younger than him) from the Philippines.

This guy is a freaking weirdo. I am not sure if I feel sorry for him, or angry with him.

OT: I'm not sure I see the point of this thread. A horny old man goes off and gets himself a replacement wife. Nothing new there. Oh, and he's a radio show host ... even less surprising.

Maybe Art spent some time in the United States navy at some point at Subic Bay.

Come to think of it...

Leaving and going down to the Phillipines is a way to escape public scrutiny...

And I see that there is a lot of rhetoric on the internet about him being accused of being a child molestor.

Ah HA! Art Bell DOES have a link to the military...the marines!

Plus, it seems that he's spent some time down in the Pacific rim area.

Too late. She's already 20-something, a college grad. Was working as a teacher (K-6) before Art 'retired' her. There's, effectively, no divorce in the Philippines. They will live together on the 19th floor of a Manilla high-rise.

This is uncalled for.

Appearances can be deceiving, but it'd be hard to fake the kind of thorough devotion he expressed towards Ramona.

I would say to myself "gee, I hope I'm that devoted to my wife when I get married".

I was on MSN or ICQ once, and this Filipino girl started talking to me. I was polite, and the next day she asked me to marry her, and then divorce her once she got into Canada. That was weird and scary because I was only 17 at the time.

I had one of those Ukraine gals trying to scam me on ICQ once.

She was actually pretty cute. But non-the-less I knew her game.

She was DESPERATE that I send her a plane ticket to here, speaking about an abusive husband and how she would take care of me etc.

I had told her I was talking to her and another Canadian gal, and was trying to decide who to fly over.

This went on for weeks till one day I had told her I JUST won the lottery! I had now millions of dollars and would make a decision soon.

She was constantly online to make sure to talk me into flying her out here.

Then one day I simply told her I was asking the Canadian to come see me.

She threw a fit and admitted she was just trying to use me, etc that it didn't matter to her.

I told her "That's ok, I never won the lottery, and there is no Canadian"

subego: The guy's wife (Ramona) died in January. It's April. He's REMARRIED.

You don't think that's freaking WEIRD?

Not only that, but now he's moving out of the country permanently?

The guy is a freaking weirdo in my opinion - and in some other's opinions here also - that's all.

Methinks that Art Bell knew "Airyn" before Ramona died.

Yup, so thoroughly devoted that he got over her death, met someone, and remarried... all in less than 100 days.

I bet some people mourn longer when their favorite tv show is cancelled.

I hope you are MUCH more devoted to your wife to be than this....meeting and marrying someone immediately after the death of your wife is pathetic.

What was his motivation is what I am curious about. Did he do this because he is a cold, selfish prick? Did he do it to fill a void, out of desperation?

Either way, it is just plain wrong.

If for no other reason, than it is disrespectful to his deceased wife (though there are many other reasons imho).

Nope, but at least let the ashes grow cold before meeting someone else?

And "...for the rest of his life?"

If this guy was marrying a new girl within 3 months of the death of his wife, then he had to be working up the relationship well before that. So he waited what... a few weeks? A month? A couple of months? That is in no way the rest of his life.

There is no way this guy was in the right frame of mind to seriously commit to a relationship that soon after the death of his wife.
