HJSplit for Mac OS X?

I`ve found a nice tool for Windows which`s function is not yet available for the Mac. I think it`s pretty
simple to program but I can`t do it.
HJSplit is a tool for Windows that splits Files into a parts. These parts
can then be downloaded from the web and joined again with HJSplit. These
filetypes that are used very often are not yet supported by Stuffit. And a
function like that is not available for Mac users as far as I know. Yet that
would be very usefull to backup a Song-Project with many audio tracks that`s
over 650 MB onto several CDRs. Having taken these to the studio the file can
simply be re-joined.
A file "some_movie.mpeg" 30 MB can be split into:
"some_movie.mpeg.001" 10 MB
"some_movie.mpeg-002" 10 MB
"some_movie.mpeg.002" 10 MB
The ending .001 , .002 etc. is typical for HJSplit.
download HJSplit for Windows here:

Sorry? Not available?
Stuffit deluxe has the capability to segment files already for years.
I've used this function extensively back in the floppy disk era to copy a 5 Mb file onto 5 high density disks. (Once it took me the complete morning to copy a file onto 30 disks, wow I love my zip disk and Cd burner). Stuffit expander can rejoin and expand these files perfectly afterwards. So that only leaves the support for HJsplit files by stuffit expander in case you receive these files from your windows friends.
Good luck!
BTW: A few years ago, I found HJSplit just because I was looking for an equivalent app on the windows platform that could perform "my" segmenting function. It seems you are experiencing the same problem the other way around.

I did some looking through the manpages. OSX does in fact have a split command that seems to do what you want. I don't know if it's compatible with HJSplit, though. Type man split at the Terminal for more information.
Yet another cool Unix command we need a frontend for...

the best would be to have a new Windows app that support the format of the OS X command and old hjsplit-files aswell -IF they differ- while new files would be saved in the most compatible form. only crossplatform can bring a real standard.
this way i could send/post/SELL images of HDs/CD-Roms formatted for E-Mu samplers on the web accessible for both windows and mac users.

If there were to be a crossplatform standard, I would think it would be the one provided by the Unix splitcommand (which, again, OSX handles through its own implementation of that command). It runs anywhere Unix does, and with the proliferation of Unix-based operating systems out there that makes for one heck of a cross-platform standard.
Also of note is that HJSplit apparently has a Java version; that should run on OSX as well. I wonder if HJSplit isn't already compatible with Unix split, though. It might be.

There is an OS X application MacHacha that supports that type of splitting, among others.
From its help document:
Formats handled by MacHacha
1. Hacha
2. MacHacha
3. HJSplit
4. FastSplit
5. WinSplit
6. MasterSplitter
7. RAR
I believe it is available as a free download, although I don't remember where I picked it up.
Hope that helps.
