Please, can anyone help with restoring access to my 'User Folder'?

I have no clear remembrance of what exact actions I was taking, but on restarting after a software (NetBarrier) update I was denied access to my User Folder and presented with a generic finder, no e-mail and no internet.
I know, I know what you are going to say - 'Didn't you B'up!!!" Yes my data but not e-mail addresses, old messages, address book, and web site bookmarks.

On trying to open my original User folder I now get the message: 'The folder "xxxxxx" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.'

I am hoping that a trip to Terminal and some careful typing will rectify this!

If anyone can help, thanks in advance. My e-mail is [email protected].

Happy New Year.

Hugh.

Did you change the name on your home folder? See the first FAQ in the OS X sticky.
