Hey guys,
Any songs you would recommend that has the same style as Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve?
I find the unison of classical and modern music quite interesting. (That's how I see the song)

Off the top of my head:
GnR - November Rain
Beatles - Eleanor Rigby
Aerosmith - I don't want to miss a thing
Coldplay - Viva la Vida
Metallica - ( from back when they were relevant ) - S&M
All of them used an orchestra

Battery and Master of Puppets left me in awe (and almost numb), and that's pretty rare. It may be the best live Metal album of all time.

Sigur Rós – Viðrar vel til loftárása (insanely beautiful song, but be patient—it starts out slow)
Björk – Jóga (video, but bad quality, both image and sound)
Muse – Butterflies and Hurricanes (annoying Flash player. Click on Media -> Absolution -> scroll down to the song—from about 2:45 till 4:00, it’s pure classicness)
Tori Amos – Yes, Anastasia ( really crappy YouTube live recording here—will only give you a very basic idea of what the song is)
Robbie Williams – Millennium (my ex actually thought for a long time Robbie had stolen the violin theme from Bittersweet Symphony)
More or less anything by Nightwish (mixing opera[ish] singing with rock music)

This week I've been listening to (and enjoying) The Last Shadow Puppets album. Think Arctic Monkeys meets London Metropolitan Orchestra meets several Bond themes.

Nope, it's the theme from You Only Live Twice.

I know that, and you know that—but my ex didn’t know that.
Incidentally, You Only Live Twice is a better option than Millennium, anyway. Much better song (though not as good to dance to).

Thanks for all the feedback. Some songs I liked, others.. Well, I'm not so open minded with music. A friend of mine recommended Show Me The Money. The violins in the background are cool, the rap.. not so much. Haha
Also, Stronger Than We Know is so so. The transition from classical to modern is flawless, and the incorporation of classical elements into the modern rhythm is sweet. The movie it came from its lame, I know. No need to mention it.

I've heard that song before...millions of times, it's not cool anymore.
I hate the lyrics.

Then try "Blackout" by Muse as well...... great song.
Silverchair could be added to this thread... Daniel Johns puts together some pretty impressive arrangements.
Stars are also a great band with some orchestral arrangements... the album "Set Yourself on Fire" is killer.

It is probably as fun and fulfilling for them as it would for Scorpions to play at a Britney Spears concert...

Oh come on. We both know that professional classical musicians generally tend to become mindless robots after about five years anyway. They probably didn't feel a thing (bar the paycheque slipping into their back pocket).

Creed's "Arms Wide Open" has a similar affect on me, whether it's "the same style" or not...

That was the time frame they recorded this song in, so I guess that works. I wasn't commenting on the band itself, just the song. I seldom get "hooked" on groups anymore. To ephemeral.

Creed put itself on the 'total talentless *********" list when I saw an interview with Scott Stapp around 2003.
Paraphrasing to the best of my memory...
"We try not to listen to music while making a record because we don't want to sound like other bands, we want our music to be really unique"
Not only is Creed's music the definition of generic, they have the gall to think other bands would sully their 'awesome' sound. That said the music is alright, i guess, but the band is so high and mighty it makes me want to vomit in terror.
</end rant>
