One seemingly little-known fact about the iPhone is that, across the various models, it is the top camera used to take pictures worldwide. Not the top smartphone camera -- the most used camera. In a new commercial from Apple that adds to its latest "If it's not an iPhone, it's not an iPhone" campaign, the camera and its ability to get high-quality photos even in adverse conditions is highlighted. The entire campaign is something of a departure for Apple, veering away from its usual lifestyle and people-focused ads and presenting straightforward facts about the hardware and integrated software. In the latest ad, the only app shows is Apple's Camera app. The company has done campaigns that focused on apps before, but rarely touts the hardware and its own software in such a direct manner.
A voiceover notes that every day, "millions of amazing photos and videos are shot with iPhone. That's because the iPhone makes it easy for everyone to shoot amazing photos and video." Examples of actual, unretouched photos and videos accompany the narration, and are the sole subject of the ad. The new spot echoes a recent online promotion by the company that touted photos and videos taken on the iPhone. The 30-second spot ends with the "if it's not an iPhone ... it's not an iPhone."
Two previous ads, "Hardware" and "Loved," showcased, respectively, the unique integration of design, hardware and software to be found in the iPhone, and the loyalty the device engenders among users. All three of the latest commercials seem to be geared towards capitalizing on the iPhone 6 line's above-average ability to lure Android users to switch platforms by emphasizing the hardware and software in addition to the overall experience.

To computer-savvy, intelligent, good-looking readers of MacNN? Yes, very well known. To your mom or grandmother? I'm guessing "no."

"One seemingly little-known fact about the iPhone is that..."
Just curious... how exactly was this "fact" determined?
