My stupid iPhone game: Nesen Probe, it's rather old, annoying and pointless, but it's free.
Was free. Now it's gone. Never to be seen again.
Off to join its brother and sister apps that could not
keep up with the ever updating iOS. RIP Nesen Probe.
I'd like to get my hands on the guy, or girl, who thought my house would be a great Pokestop (likely it's automated).

I understand it's leveraging the crowd data from Ingress.
I didn't play it, but I got the idea winning was based on being physically close to other people on your team, so they got loads of data about what spaces are occupied by lots of people.
I enjoy it, really. It gives Emma endless entertainment and she gets to play with the other children.

How do you know that they are playing the game? I just downloaded it and wondering if I should start yet another account. Don't want to use my gmail account as that is being deprecated.
took my two girls (the ones CTP feels sorry for), to the local poke hotspot.
It's quite surreal. At 9.00 at night theres about 40 or 50 people standing around playing this game and a constant stream of cars drawing up with parents driving their off spring to the site.
Pretty much everyone we saw walking too and from was also on their phones playing it.
This space for Hire! Reasonable rates. Reach an audience of literally dozens!
Yeah, I've been playing it a little bit with my son. I don't understand the appeal, but it seems to have tapped into some sort of deep corner of the human psyche and hit all of the right buttons. Because it's really weird to see a dozen people at the park all playing this one (seemingly terrible) game.
And what's the deal with battling? Is it just really hard? We finally go to the point where we could actually do something with our pokemen, and we just got our ass kicked over and over and over again. Did we find a tough gym, do we not know what we are doing? Do I need to buy $99 worth of smurfberries to stand a chance?

I've never tried geocaching, but I sort of understand the appeal. I think this is akin to geocaching and bug collecting, but at an easier level. I've not messed with it enough to get into a gym, but my son is loving it.

I noticed most are fountains (the one in front of our Church is) or other water related places. One I saw is a purified water kiosk. The statue if Saint Thomas the Apostle in the parking lot is a gym.
You can take over a gym regardless of how strong it is and how weak you are (within reason), but the bigger the gap, the longer it will take.
Every time you battle, the gym loses points. It requires 2000 points for each pokemon left at the gym. If the gym has 3 pokemon there and you get its total down below 4000 points, the weakest one gets booted out. Then you heal up your pokemon with potions etc and fight it again and again until there are none left. Then you can leave one of yours to claim it. Once a day you can claim 500 free stardust and 10 free coins for each pokemon you have in a gym (only one of yours per gym). Max of 8 total.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....
