Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

I had crazy crashing problems when I first installed Mail 1.2 (no problems before 1.2). I trashed my prefs and started my mailboxes fresh by dragging them out of ~/Library/Mail and importing them again. I'm not sure which one of those things actually solved the problem, but it's been fine since then.

No complaints here. Hasn't crashed yet and it's fast enough for me.

Mail has never crashed on me since installing Jag a month ago.
WIth 10.2.1, it seems to have gotten a little peppier--ie, scrolling through messages, and also selecting a message and then seeing its contents in the window pane below.
I'm content with it now. Under 10.2, it was slow, but 10.2.1 is fast enough so that I'll hold off on switching back to Entourage.

I've used mail.app since the days of 10.0.4, and I don't think it's *ever* crashed on me.
It used to sometimes become unresponsive when I tried to quit it, and I'd have to force quit, but 10.2 seems to have addressed that problem.

Good. I Thought I Was Going Crazy For A Second. Maybe I Was More Annoyed By People Putting "AAAAAA" At The Begginning Of Their Thread Title When Threads Clearly Aren't Alphabetized.

Hey, could some of you post your system specs, both those having and those not having problems? Maybe also how you have Mail set up?
I'm having a lot of slowness in sorting, searching, and displaying -- even in switching the highlight from email A to email B, or mailbox X to mailbox Y.
The biggest problem though, is that Mail locks up the system for 30-120 seconds when it is "Writing Changes to Disk"... any ideas on this one?
The reason I'd like system/setup specs, in particular, is that I am afraid that my issues may be related to having an older/less-powerful Powerbook, and having a pretty big Inbox. So I'd like to compare.
My Specs:
I've got a Lombard 333mhz, with 320 RAM, 4HD, running 10.2.1
My Inbox has about 2050 messages, and a lot of attachments (docs and pictures, mostly). The Inbox is about 66 megs. All the other folders are pretty compact. I have 4 accounts being checked: my school account, 2 .mac accounts, and a spymac account.
Thanks!
