Hack to enable cross-fading desktop pics?

Does anyone know of a hack or something to enable the "quartz-extreme" desktop picture cross-fading on a non quartz extreme mac?

You can use the program Backlight to set the Apple slideshow screensaver as the background. The Apple slideshow screensaver uses crossfades.

Actually, it may not work. Like the background picture, the screensaver only does the cross fade on sufficiently studly hardware.

Hmmmm.....works fine (albeit with a performance penalty) with my B&W 350 w 16mb ATI card.
