I have an 500Mhz AGP PowerMac G4 with a 15" Apple display which I wouldn't trade for the fanciest PC money can buy. But, lets say I wanted to get the most incredible Mac system available, cost not being an issue. I think we've all had fun maxing out the features on a custom configuration G4 at the Apple online store, maybe 20 grand. Now go here
http://www.ibuypower.com/CONFIRM/configurator-value.htm
and MAX EVERYTHING OUT. These are some pretty serious specs. $5,000.00? Huh? Did they forget to add everything up?
Imagine a G5 dream system with all those specs plus dual Cinema Displays. Who WOULDN'T pay twenty grand for that?
dreamin in Austin Tx.

Since this is referring to general discussion, and not hardware specifically, bumping this to the lounge.

Is your point that PCs are cheaper than macs? True. However, I don't see how can you configure a $20,000 powermac. Even if you choose the ridiculous options like the 4 72gb scsi drives for $3650(!) I don't think you can get close without getting a couple of cinema displays -- so what you are really comparing is the price of the monitors.

My MDD PowerMac G4 is fully maxed out (except for the hard drives). I also own a Cinema HD Display. Monitor - $3499, computer - $4999 (now it's $4599).
Specs:
Dual 1.25 GHz
2 GB RAM
GeForce 4 Ti 4600
120 GB HD
SuperDrive AND Combo Drive
It's not quite $20K, but still a major dent in my check book.

at one point in the not so distant past i thought it got pretty close (to 20). anyway, yes a large portion of the 16 grand is on cinema displays but nevertheless, i guess i just want Apple to be leading and kicking ass up and down the sillicon stretch when it comes to hardware, once again. sorry about the misplaced post.

"Devil ether, it makes you behave like the village drunkard in some early Irish novel. Total loss of all basic motor skills. Blurred vision. No balance. Numb Tongue. The mind recoills in horror. Unable to communicate with the spinal column. Which is interresting, because you can watch yourself behaving in this terrible way, but you can't control it"

Don't forget that the US prices never contein sales tax. (about 10%). So 16 000 dollars would become about 17 600 dollars, when you catually boought the thing.

You can get the RAM elsewhere for MUCH cheaper. You'll probably save about $2700 from Apple's RAM prices. Enough to toss in another display!
