Hi,

Just got a new iBook 800mhz, and now they put up a refurb TiBook online, 667mhz etc. Which is faster, and which would be the better ocmputer? What kind of graphics chip did the 667 Ti have?

tough call, refurbs can be sketchy, and sometimes they can provide years of good use just like new ones.

as far as models go, i would always prefer to have a tibook rather than an ibook.

as far as speed goes- it really depends on what type of work you will be doing on it. day to day surfing, etc. or more heavy processor intensive work, ie, audio, video, or graphics, gaming, etc.

the graphics card on the 667 is the ati mobility radeon 7500
32MB of DDR

bigger screen and a g4 processor.

miles, is the bomb. the "in a silent way sessions" set is off the hook.

Thanks for the info. I don't have those session, but I just picked up the Coomplete Prestige recordings (5 24k gold cds) (Steamin, Cookin', etc..) for $10 at CDnow, what a steal.

On the mac subject, I think I may have to bite the bullet and bring back my iBook (within 10 days) and pay the bullshit 10% restocking fee($129) and bet that powerbook....

Yeah, I saw that refurbished deal today too and I'm sitting on the fence trying to decide.
I'm leaning towards a Powerbook. While they may be comparatively the same speed (give or take depending on application), the 667 is still $400 more.

But my thinking is that you get a much more usuable screen. Unless you go for the 14" iBook which has the same res and costs only $100 less than the PB.

I do like the portability and ruggedness of the iBook and I'm sure it's a great machine too. I think the Combo drive may also be faster, but I'm not sure. Oh sh*t! I can't make up my mind now....I wish there was a 13" iBook with G4 in it

with 1MB L3 Cache, 133mhz bus, Radeon 7000 32MB DDR, and faster screen, the PB would be significantly faster..
Mac Pro 3.0, ATI 5770 1GB VRAM, 10GB, 2xVelociraptor boot RAID, 4.5TB RAID0 storage, 30" & 20" Apple displays.

Actually both the current iBook 800 and the Powerbook 667 have the ATI Radeon 7500 32mb card.

If I'm not mistaken the 667 has a 16 mb card, the Ti 867 has a 32mb as does the new 800 iBooks, the 1.0 Ti has the 64 mb and the 700 iBook a 16 mb.

Sorry, I typoed the Radeon 7000 vs 7500 part, but I thought the ibook was 16MB? Anyway, the speed is still much in favor of the PB..

Just look at all the benchmarks on the net.

Two problems: the DVI PowerBooks all shipped with 32 megabytes of DDR video memory. The same goes for the latest, 800-megahertz iBooks.
