My "browser ranking"...

Incredible, but the beta versions are better than the "finished"...

1) Mozilla 1.2.1
2) Chimera 0.6
3) Safari v52 or next (and probably number 2)
4) Internet Explorer 5.2
5) iCab 2.8.2
6) Netscape 7.
Opera... almost doesn't exist for me.
Best regards from Colombia!

I honestly did NOT think I would like Safari this much. I had been faithful to Chimera (but it crashed more than I liked it to) and to OmniWeb (but it had trouble loading javascript pages). But after using Safari for only 6 days now, I absolutely LOVE it.

I'm looking forward to future updates and believe that once out of beta-testing Safari will be AWESOME!

Man this thing is FAST.

i actually have been enjoying safari alot lately, but since I've only been using it for a week, its still in the "testing ground" area, so chimera with IE as my backup currently, it may change in another week or two.

Safari witht he latest Chimera build as a major backup (it definitely screws at some essential points, especially secure sites with no valid license).

The one thing that both Chimera and Safari need to improve on is Flash content. Chimera has definitely improved of late there, but that is the remaining place where I think IE on Windows is faster.

Safari from the day it came out has been my browser of choice. Admittedly I was an IE user - I actually LIKED it, autofill, scrapbook, compatibility, features I hope make it into safari, but for now, safari is the fastest thing goin...

  • SnapBack (very innovative... you'll have to understand how it work in order to use it properly. Not lot of people know what SnapBack is for)
  • Google search box
  • Best Bookmarks System
  • Best History System
  • Best Download System (use AppleScript to put away useless files after uncompressed)
  • Best Text Rendering (OmniWeb use the same text rendering engine but Safari is far more prettier)
  • Best Pop-Up Blocker System (it worked all the time while OmniWeb kept failing)
  • Use FavIcon properly
  • Progress Bar inside the Location Box
  • Excellent Bug Reporting System
  • Automatically Chosen User Agent (Browser Compatibility)
  • First Rendezvous-enabled Browser
  • More integrated to other apps such as QuickTime (right-click on any movie link and you'll see "Open in QuickTime")
  • Take advantage of Services but doesn't conflict with others
  • ...and of course: Fast, Fast and FAST!
I could go on...

Until Apple finds a better way to import bookmarks, I'm sticking with Chimera.

My Explorer bookmarks are long gone so Safari imported nothing!

I was using IE and Chimera b/c Chimera would not work with my bank's site.....

now using Safari and must use Chimera for Ebay as Safari gets a you must use a browser that accepts cookies even when I set it to accept cookies?

Very happy with Safari...I used tabs, but more for the novelty than anything else. Would like tabs back but not with the burining whit hot intensity of some.

there's a little app that will import into safari directly from chimera, omniweb--i think it's safari enhancer. you don't need ie to import your bookmarks.

it is very easy. You can create a css that says to ban specific images based on url's, size or source.

a good example is:
http://www.aagh.net/projects/antibanner

download the css file and go to Safari > Preferences > Appearance > CSS pull down menu

Select the CSS file you just downloaded.

I edited the css file so it filters all of the banners and ands from websites I visit.

Works great

I have used all manners of browsers for the Mac, from IE to Opera. Stuck with Chimera for a long time. The one browser I always come back to is Mozilla.

Mozilla is all in all the best browser for the Macintosh.

OK, looks like I'm the only one (so far) to answer Netscape 7. Actually, I've been going back and forth in this order:

1.) Safari
2.) Netscape
3.) Chimera

I just donwloaded the Safari update, now the app won't even start. Up until now, I've been pleased with it.

Out of all 3, Netscape has been the most reliable. I haven't seen the slowness that many users here have complained about. It also seems more robust to me than Chimera, as much as I like this latter one.

IE still comes in handy, I have to admit. Just today, it was the only browser of these 4 that displayed a site properly that I was trying to view.

Until I figure out how to rollback software updates, I'm not able to use Safari.

yes I have used every main os x browser, iCab, Opera, Netscape, Mozila, IE, Chimera, Safari, Omniweb ...
1) Safari - best
2) Chimera
3) Omniweb
4) Mozilla
5) Netscape
6) IE
7) iCab
8) Opera - worst
Opera kicks ass on windows but sucks on mac, Mozilla takes an age to load and is slow after that & IE is generally slow!

I like Safari, but Chimera works fine for now (except for the ONE issue of the annoying laggy text that appears to be Gecko's fault). I don't see the point in switching to a beta right now.

There are a few features from Chimera that I really want in Safari. For one, Keychain integration to handle website passwords so I don't have to type them in each time. Keychain is Apple's own technology, so this should be a no-brainer. Better bookmark importing. Bookmark keywords that support arguments. And (seemingly under much contention) tabs. There are others, but I've listed them in like 10 threads already - basically, I'm waiting on Safari, although I already like it a lot. Chimera will serve me fine until then.

Safari is the main one, with IE and Chimera as backups for the sites Safari doesn't play nice with.

I used to use OW solely, but Chimera won me over with its tabs. It did take a long time to get off of OW though.

I'm surprised Safari is being used to much. It has a long ways to go.

Chimera,

its got tabs, it's prettier and looks cleaner, IMHO.

Brushed metal windows do have the advantage of being draggable from any non- widget area and Safari is quick, but it hasn't won me over yet.

Any future browser that restores the pages I was browsing before a crash will have a special place in my heart.

iCab 2.9, the new web search system is 'awesome'.

My other option is Safari, but its icon is not for me, there is an icon on xicons I think, very nice to Safari.

Sorry if someone posted it before, I could not read the boards several days, but do you know www.isafari.com ? Maybe a reason why safari and not isafari :o

After acquiring v56 of Safari it has earned complete dominance on my iBook. No longer do i need to fire up IE to log into .edu webpages that require certificates. its great. no one can compare, just for fun i tried to use chimera (my previous #1 browser) but it cant really hold its own compared to Safari.

Chimera used to be my #1, but I've been having serious problems with stability, so I went back to Mozilla. (voted Chimera for the poll though)

Safari is looking pretty good, I think the Bookmark management is the best one I've ever seen! Needs to incorporate live spellchecking like OmniWeb though. One thing that needs to be fixed: the autocomplete in the address bar (enter foo and hit return) goes to foo.com, and it really should go to www.foo.com. A lot of sites don't answer requests if you don't specify the www part due to different hosting environments. Also, Safari 'feels' light, always a plus.

If you're archiving web pages, I recommend Mozilla since it doesn't jam everything into some propritary format like IE. I just hate IE general

I was thrilled with Chimera and used it as my primary browser until Safari came out. I haven't used Chimera since. I love Safari's speed and bookmark capabilities.

Wonderful browser. If the beta version is this enjoyable, I can't wait to see what the updates will bring

I also think the bookmarking system of Safari is great.

Now if it would just access my bank--only browser I've used which doesn't. It has some other weird problems too.

The new Omniweb beta is pretty good-- has resolved some https issues for me.

I took the significant step of removing both Navigator and OmniWeb from my dock. Safari is my main browser on my iBook now. I was won over by its speed, standards compliance and stability. Unfortunately, my classic (and main) machine is still ruled by IE 5.

I'm suprised I saw no mention of Phoenix!!!

You've got to check this out. Some kind gentleman took the time to port this over to mac OSX. For a quickie port it's pretty darn good and it plays Flash the best of them all!!!

Get Phoenix here...

As soon as Safari lets me accept/reject cookies for each site (like Chimera and IE), it will be my primary browser. This is one feature that's indispensable for me, although most others probably don't care.
