I opend console to get a safari crash log (which is kept in crashlog folder in user directory) and had this error repeated almost a hundered times today and had me scrolling for ever-

Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8717

What the hell is that? What does this mean and is it of any concern?

Sounds like a USB device. Searching around, vendor ID 1193 is Canon, Inc.

You are correct.

I searched the web a little more and found that Canon (CanoScan N670U in my case) drivers notoriously do this.

I was looking at getting another scanner anyway, but this thin, light, USB powered scanner does meet all my needs now.

I'll have to think about it.
