so i want to take the last upgrade plunge with my trusty old sawtooth and max the ram. it has 4 slots but all the literature on it says 1.5 Gb max. is there anything stopping it from recognizing that 4th 512 DIMM and going 2GB?

it's possible. just do it.

there was a 1.5 limitation in 9, but not in X.

Possible and nice...

I upgraded my old Sawtooh 350 to a new PowerLogix 1 GHz, Radeon 8500, new WD 120 GB drive, and 2 GB of RAM.

OSX sees it and loves it.

Absolutely worth it.

Works wonders in OS X running multiple programs.

The 1.5 Gb max was for OS 9. OS X can handle all 2 Gb. So go for it.

The limit in OS9 was 1.5GB (which COULD have easily been rectified, but Steve decided not to), but the other 512MB can be used as a RAM disk. It is still recognised...

I hd 2 gig of memory in my G4 350, and it ran just fine; System Profiler recognized it and everything, BUT- MS Office 2001 wouldn't run- I'd get an error message saying that there wasn't enough memory. Took out 512 megs, and Office ran fine. Weird...

so how much difference does cl2 (2-2-2) make over cl3 (3-2-2)
is cl2 worth the extra cost for heavy maya and photoshop work?

(thanks for all the info btw)

interesting. hmm this is a bit older machine: B&W 450. it says it handles up to 1gb of ram. it does have 4 slots. can i stick 4 512mb ram chips and make 2gb? the reason i ask is because i'm running osx and from what i've been reading it should support it. the question is: is 'Yosemite' motherboard 'unable' to support more than 1gb of ram?

I am running a B&W dual 450 and it runs just fine with 2gig. And I don't have a problem running MS office either. Go to Coast to Coast memory and buy what you need to make it 2 gig and you will be just fine.

256 (256 x 4 slots = 1024 mb) was as big a stick as you could buy when that machine was made. It should take 4 X 512 just fine with OS X.

I've got 1 GB in my G4 733 Digital Audio. Will adding more show me any significant improvement in 10.2.3? My needs are basic with some light photo/video editing, internet surfing, office stuff and an occassional gaming binge. Thanks.

Yes, OSX can recognise the 4 512MB PC133 dimms.

Does anyone know whether you can put the new 1GB & 1.5GB PC133 dimms in there?

Now that would rock!
