I've got a 15" iMac 700.
Given there is no spanning, what do you do with the video port?
If I connect another VGA LCD display to it, it will simply mirror the internal iMac's display.
Other than presentations, what good is this?
Am I missing something? How are others using this port?
thanks

No, you're not missing something. If you connect a VGA monitor to it, it will only mirror what's on the LCD.

I use a 21" monitor with my iMac DV. Quite a bit nicer than using it's 15" screen. I'm sure glad it has the video out.

Probably a good thing to have the video out should something ever happen to the built in display; then at least you could use it backup your data before shipping it out for repair.
