The sound on my PB 17 seems to delayed for a couple of seconds on some applications. I notice it most of all when I empty the trash bin. The sound occurs about 2 seconds after it has been emptied. I am using the default sound. Does this happen to anyone else?

Thanks,

GreenwoodMO

Yes, I know what you mean. For example if I click outside a modal window, there will be a notciable delay between clicking, screen flashing (Universal Access option) and the beep.

Not sure whether its software or hardware related.

Regards, Michael.

There have been instances when the sound is delayed during Quicktime playback or with FCE. Sometimes quitting the application and restarting it can solve the problem. I don't think I would blame it on the 17" but rather the OSX software.

I have that too, also with mail notifications in Mail.app.

Here, it's combined with that famous "click". It's like the 17" has to start up its sound engine (= click) to produce the sound (= delay).

I have this problem as well, but it happens more when I'm running off of battery power. When I have my 17" plugged in, it seems to work nearly perfectly.

This is not new as far as PowerBooks are concerned. Apple has found a way to put the computer's sound system to sleep to conserve power when it's not in use. No need to quit applications. Just adjust your Energy Saver preferences for "highest performance."

go to versiontracker.com and do a search for

keepsoundawake

that will keep the PB from powering down it's audio system, therefore no delay
