Thinksecret.com reports about a benchmark done with an application that Apple uses to do benchmarks called Skidmark GT. The result doesn't seem so good. What do you think?

Taking a G4 1 Ghz as reference with "100", a G5 DP 2GHz achieves:

Integer: 176
Floating: 270
Altivec: 208

Oppps! Sorry RealMadrid!

Over the last few days I seem to have developed G5 speed 'Hair trigger' defensiveness or something...!

I saw G5 and 'speed', and got carried away I guess.

All apologies!

Peace,

Marc

(Although you already have one over on me anyway, (if you're a Real Madrid fan...), by taking both Beckham and Carlos Q from my favourite club to Madrid!)

My post about this is here.

Basically my uneducated conclusion is that it means the Dual G5 2 GHz runs at between 344% and 540% of the speed of my GigaBook. That is, if you ignore the huge increase in memory speed, etc.

Not too shabby if you ask me. (Remember that Skidmarks only tests one CPU.)

"We tried to come up with a demo where we'd actually show you the 6 GB capacity (of the G5) but we couldn't figure out any that wouldn't destroy the Xeon.
Yeah I thought that was funny too, but what you have isn't the exact quote if you care.
